Hi there! I'm Ashton, I'm from Calgary, Alberta. I don't really call myself a photographer, just an explorer with a DSLR who likes to take risks with rotten floorboards.
My fascination with abandoned places started about ten years ago when I used to drive up and down Highway 23 from Calgary to Lethbridge when I was going to university. There were so many old homesteads along the way, but I never stopped at any of them because I was usually in a hurry (as most 18 year old drivers are) and not brave enough to check them out by myself. A few years later when I finally had the time and a proper camera, most of the places I had seen along that highway were gone.
In January of 2011, I happened to be out driving in southern Alberta for a work project. I was in a pretty remote area and I happened to spot a house in the distance, and that day I decided I was brave enough to go check it out. I don't have the original files anymore, just the potato quality ones from the album that's buried on my Facebook account, but here they are:

After that, I was obsessed. Anytime I saw a place, I stopped and got a photo, even if it was from the road or beyond the fence. Now here we are in 2018, and I have so many photos and stories to share!
You can find me on Instagram and on Facebook on Hearts at the Homestead - a project I share with my mom.
Hope you enjoy.
